Public service work may be a condition of a juvenile or adult offender’s sentence of probation, conditional discharge or supervision.

Public service work can only be performed for a non-profit organization.

  • Please contact your Probation Officer to set up volunteering for these events.
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to start time
  • Wear work boots or closed toe shoes
  • Dress for the weather
  • Involves heavy lifting and interacting with the public
  • Lunch is provided

DONATION POLICY

  • You may earn Public Service Work hours with donations to Ogle County food pantries, and other agencies.
  • Food Pantry donations will be made directly to the FOOD PANTRY. Donations must be made in Ogle County unless permission is granted to donate elsewhere.  See list below, which lists all Ogle County Food Pantries.
  • In order to get credit for hours for food pantry donations, you must provide your Probation Officer with the following documents:
    • Purchase Receipt
      • From the grocery store, etc. – You CANNOT use Public Assistance Programs (example: LINK Card) to purchase items.
    • Donation Receipt
      • Provided by the food pantry via receipt, letter head, or official document indicating amount worth of items (or number of items) donated
    • You may also earn Public Service Work hours with the donation of items requested by some of our Local Community Outreach Programs.  In order to get credit for hours relative these donations, you MUST bring the following to your PROBATION OFFICER at the Ogle County Probation Department:
    • Items purchased
      • In original packaging and with tags intact
    • Purchase Receipt
      • From the store or online
    • See below for the Ogle County Probation Department Donation Conversion Chart for details of hours earned. Essentially every $4.00 spent (before taxes), equals 1 hour of earned Public Service Work.
