Preparing Your Pets for Disaster
Your pet depends on you for its safety and well being. How are you going to take care of your pet when a disaster strikes? Here are some ideas for your Pet Disaster Supply Kit:
- Be sure your pet has proper identification tags and they are securely fastened to your pet’s collar.
- A current photo of your pet in case you become separated.
- Make sure you have a pet carrier or a leash for your pet.
- You will need to assemble the following items in a container to be ready in any kind of emergency:
- Pet food
- Water
- Medications
- Veterinary records
- Litter box
- Can opener
- Food dishes
- First aid kit
With the exception of service animals, pets are generally not permitted in emergency shelters for health reasons!
